History

The Institute of Neuroimmunology Slovak Academy of Science was established on the 1.1.1996 as a specialized research center of neurosciences. During the first decade of the existence the Institute has been become the leading institution in neuroresearch in Slovakia.

Important events

2006
Institute of Neuroimmunology proposes the first Description for Neurosciences for the third educational degree to Accreditation Commitee of the Government of Slovak Republic. Accreditation Commitee and Ministry of Education approve the proposal and the Institute of Neuroimmunology becomes the first oficial educational centre for the Neurosciences.
2005
The Institute becomes founding member and coordinator of the Centre of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders (AD Centre).
2004
16. December - Presidium of the Slovak Academy of Sciences on its 58th session on 16th December 2004 (resolution No. 1155) approved setting up the Centre of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders.
2003
31. July - After receiving full accreditation from European Union and from Slovak National Accreditation Service (SNAS) for screening of prion diseases, Institute of Neuroimmunology was appointed by the Government of the Slovak Republic to the National Reference Laboratory for the Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (resolution of the Government of SR, 31.7.2003, No. 323/2003).
Institute of Neuroimmunology SAS in cooperation with the Ministry of Health opens in the Memory Centre the first specialised psychiatric ambulancy care center for Alzheimer’s disease, as the national province centre in SR.
2002
25. May - Institute of Neuroimmunology SAS together with Memory Foundation opens joint platform for the scientific outputs into the medical practice – MEMORY Centre.
1997
21. October - Goverment of the Slovak Republic appointed Institute of Neuroimmunology, SAS to the National Scientific Centre representing Slovak Republic in International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB).
11. August - On the basis of decission of the Presidium of SAS from August 11, 1997 (resolution No. 735) and of Ministry of Agriculture was established on the platform of NIU joint iniciative of Ministry of Agriculture and SAS with the name "Central laboratory of veterinary biomedicine (CLVB)".
1996
1. January - Founding of the Institute of Neuroimmunology.
15. February - President of the SAS, Dr.h.c. Prof. Ing. Š.Luby, DrSc and rector of the University of Veterinary Medicine in Košice, Dr.h.c.Prof. MVDr. Rudolf Cabadaj, PhD, sign the contract about founding of the joint laboratory – Center of Biomedical Microbiology and Immunology (CBMI).
